The most recent polling finds that Republican voters have elevated Newt Gingrich to presidential frontrunner status.    But it is difficult to believe that those supporting him agree with his amnesty plan, or are even aware that his proposal sounds like it would give jobs to around 3.5 million illegal aliens (according to a new Pew Hispanic Center study). Hopefully, Gingrich supporters can persuade him to at least cut 90% out of that.

The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security hosted a hearing Tuesday morning titled, “Does Administrative Amnesty Harm our Efforts to Gain and Maintain Operational Control of the Border?” While Members stuck mostly to their traditional talking points, the hearing did shed some light on Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith's HALT Act, which out prohibit the Administration from offering an Administrative Amnesty. Democrats on the Subcommittee discussed the costs associated with deportations, while Republicans questioned DHS officials on the logic of allowing illegal aliens in custody go free.

The Obama administration quietly dropped a bombshell late last week when it announced that it would be granting work permits to as many as 300,000 illegal workers currently in deportation proceedings. The mainstream media has marginalized this very important story, especially overlooking the adverse impact the work permits will have on 22 million Americans who want a full-time job but can't find one. The press continues to ignore the fact that the federal government imports more legal foreign workers every month than it creates jobs. Nor does the media question what Obama's work-permits-for-illegal- workers means for suffering unemployed Americans.

DREAM Act pitched as needed economic patch

In the middle of major partisan and parliamentary shenanigans in the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon, we hope there will finally be some roll call votes on immigration amendments to the 2012 Homeland Security appropriations bill.

These would be the first roll call votes of this new Congress (6 months into session). And they would provide a window into which Members want to continue the federal government's lax attitude about unlawfully present citizens of other countries being able to remain in this country to use up resources, jobs and taxpayer benefits.

Four Ways Obama Can Move Forward on Immigration
