Virginia Commission Indicates High-Immigration Ideologues Have No Shame -- Little Heart

For proof that political sanity can be in short-supply when too many ideologues gather in one place, consider the Virginia Commission on Immigration's answer to the state's immigration problems and rapidly rising unemployment: (1) Mass amnesty for the illegal businesses and the illegal aliens they hire, and (2) Increase the importation of foreign workers!

Va. Panel on Immigration Steps Back From Hard Line

Virginia, known for some of the nation's toughest policies on illegal immigration, appears to be abandoning its hard-line approach as state officials consider proposals to help foreign-born residents assimilate, including increasing the number of English classes.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/23/AR2008112302477.html?hpid=moreheadlines

Obama faces pressure on immigration reform

Published:

Many analysts are skeptical that Oba ma can navigate the political minefield of illegal immigration in his first year, while confronting the plunging economy and two wars. Still, groups on both sides are commissioning polls to gauge Americans' appetite for the immigration issue and assembling teams to file legislation for their cause next year.

Poll Reveals NO Mandate for Amnesty

Published:

The Federation for American Immigration Reform had Zogby international conduct a post-election poll and the results show that Americans are against an immigration plan that includes amnesty. The poll revealed that actual voters from the recent election favor tougher enforcement and that amnesty for illegal aliens would "further harm the interests of struggling American workers."

Amnesty Petition to Obama Worthless?

Hopelessness is a dangerous thing. That is why the petition urging Pres-Elect Obama to reject amnesty is so important -- and urgent. He and his transition team need to know that our side of the immigration debate is not depressed into inaction by the election of yet-another open-border president. And all who are disappointed by the election results need to act their way out of their depression. Right now, too many have the opinion of Steven from Texas:

Sign the Petition asking President-Elect Barack Obama to Reject Amnesty

Published:

Please sign our petition asking President-elect Barack Obama to support American workers over illegal aliens by rejecting an illegal alien amnesty.

Illegal aliens take job opportunities away from the most vulnerable Americans in skilled and unskilled positions. To force through an amnesty for illegal aliens would hurt American workers.

It is very important that you both sign the petition and ask your friends to sign it too.

Obama Election Ambiguous For Immigration (but some of his promises hold good possibilities)

CHICAGO -- Changing planes here seems an appropriate place to anticipate the results and congratulate Sen. Obama on his victory. As my readers know, I have rated most past immigration actions and campaign promises of both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain as "bad" to "abysmal." But I feel mildly optimistic at this moment about the next Presidency.

STATUS QUO ESTABLISHMENT CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT (when it comes to immigration)

Well, they did it. The Presidential candidates got to election day without disappointing The Establishment which thrives on massive foreign labor importation. No matter how much Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama talked of helping mainstreet or Joe the Plumber or the middle-class or the forgotten Americans -- and no matter how much they talked of change and shaking up the Washington establishment -- the fact is that ON IMMIGRATION ISSUES, both have reached election day with almost no veering from the status quo, fatcat, Robber Baron approach of the Establishment that drove Pres. Bush's immigration policies his first six years.

Wicker said he has supported legislation to increase military presence on the country's border with Mexico and a more stringent employment verification system.

"We need to make sure the E-Verify system is as accurate and instantaneous as it can be," he said. "I know there are people who think it's inaccurate, (but) it seemed to be a system on the right track to me."

In a wide-ranging interview, Wicker said he disagrees that babies born in the United States to parents who are in the country illegally should automatically become American citizens.

Family blames sanctuary policy in 3 slayings

"San Francisco's immigrant sanctuary policies played a "substantial" role in the slayings of a father and two of his sons by allowing city officials to shield the alleged killer from deportation, despite his violent history, according to a legal claim filed Friday on behalf of the victims' family.

The claim is likely to be followed by a wrongful death lawsuit in which the family of Tony Bologna and his sons could seek millions of dollars from the city.

Rep. Chris Cannon -- who lost in a 60%-40% Primary election landslide yesterday -- had survived several previous Primary challenges by fooling enough people into believing that he was not really an amnesty champion.

His loss should strike some fear into the 362 Members of Congress (68%) who have Amnesty grades of D+ or worse but who nearly all claim to voters that they do NOT support amnesties for illegal aliens.

DID THEY DIE FOR OPEN BORDERS? Memorial Day raised questions about U.S. government's commitment to national community

With men and women dying in the armed services of our country every day, the question of national community loomed large for me this Memorial Day.

Did all those who died in foreign lands this last year, as well as in America near our own borders, accept the possibility of the supreme sacrifice for just some vague concept of a country? For virtually open borders? For a government that only some times puts its citizens' interests ahead of those of citizens of other countries?

NumbersUSA's Roy Beck Assesses Candidates on Immigration Issues

Published:

NumbersUSA Founder and CEO Roy Beck has analyzed and ranked all presidential candidates based on the campaign promises they have made and their past actions in elected office. NumbersUSA encourages all candidates to turn away from bad or poor positions of the past, and asks concerned voters to encourage them in working towards "true" immigration reform solutions that don't reward illegal aliens. Per our policy, candidates will be rewarded with improved ratings when they adopt the preferences of the majority of Americans for far less overall immigration.

The "false dichotomy," tool of demagogues (Amnesty or deportation is a false choice)

Published:

Few things in politics are more destructive and dangerous than the false dichotomy-an "either/or" situation which limits solutions to a given problem to two or three exclusive, usually extreme, options. In countless newspaper articles and television news shows, the debate about what to do about the millions of foreign nationals living illegally in the United States is presented as a choice between the radical extremes of mass amnesty and mass deportation.

Immigration debate roils anew

NumbersUSA, the group that helped derail the comprehensive bill that would have offered legal status to the existing 12 million illegal immigrants, posted on its website a tally of its “anti-amnesty champions.” So far, 21 senators have signaled to NumbersUSA that they will oppose the amendment. The group is looking for 20 more senators to block it.

Sen. Hutchison (R-Texas) -- Favors Guest-Worker Program

Published:

Hutchison made clear the GOP plan, shaping up as the rival to Feinstein's AgJobs bill, would not offer citizenship to the temporary workers.

"The problem we had in the last bill was the controversy over amnesty," Hutchison said when asked how her legislation could avoid the fate of the proposed comprehensive immigration fix.

Sessions, who called AgJobs a "massive amnesty," is pressing for a program that would allow foreign workers to stay in the U.S. for as long as 10 months and then return home before applying to re-enter for another temporary work cycle...

Little-Known Group Claims a Win on Immigration

Published:

"When a comprehensive immigration bill collapsed last month on the Senate floor, it was a victory for a small group that had been lobbying Congress for a decade to reduce the number of immigrants — legal and illegal — in the United States. The group, Numbers USA, tracked every twist and turn of the bill. Its members flooded the Senate with more than a million faxes, sent through the organization’s Web site. It supplied arguments and information to senators opposing the bill. 'It was a David-and-Goliath struggle,' said Roy H.
