Gov. Schwarzenegger Vetoes Anti-Verification Bill
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have prohibited cities, counties or districts from requiring employers who receive government contracts to use an employment verification system like E-Verify. AB 1288 was offered by Assemblyman Paul Fong and passed the State Assembly last spring and the State Senate over the summer.

Immigration Panel Advocates Less Family-Based Immigration
An immigration panel set up by the Brookings Institution and Duke University has advocated that the current "diversity" visa lottery be abolished, tighter restrictions be placed on family-based immigration, and that workplace verification be required before any amnesty is considered.

Truth in Labeling for American Apparel
The California clothing manufacturer, American Apparel, is firing about 1,800 employees whose identity documents contain irregularities. In other words, they are illegal aliens. The wording in the articles, columns, and editorials written about this would have you believe that the people being fired have done nothing wrong. But they have.

Border Fence Debate Stalling Homeland Security Spending Bill
The debate over Sen. Jim DeMint's border fence amendment is stalling the reconciliation of the 2010 Homeland Security spending bill. Sen. DeMint's amendment requires the completion of the fence along the Southwest border and was approved by the Senate, but the House leadership is reluctant to support the measure.
A Working Man’s Views on Illegal Immigration, Tricks of The Trade
An unemployed construction worker offers observations on the tricks that some greedy employers use to employ illegal aliens in the construction industry.
3 Vans Crashing San Diego Border Crossing (legacy of not allowing vote on the SAVE Act)
What a horrible image of anarchy we saw at the San Diego border crossing this week when three vans with an estimated 70 illegal aliens tried to crash their way through hundreds of innocent passengers in dozens of vehicles. Why did they do it? I'm willing to say that a bunch of bishops and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited them.
Trust is Earned through Verification
On Sept. 8, 2009, the executive order mandating federal contractors to use E-Verify finally went into effect. And, after Pres. Obama's address to a joint session of Congress, lawmakers are looking into adding a verification mechanism into the health care reform proposals.
E-Verify Victory Today Follows A Year Of Your Constant Efforts
Time after time after time over the last year, NumbersUSA's members mobilized to advance E-Verify and close off millions more jobs to illegal aliens. And just as many times, you suffered defeat. It is oh so difficult to maintain perseverance, but you did and yours led to a gigantic victory today as the Obama Administration made a huge leap in immigration enforcement.
E-Verify Executive Order Goes into Effect Today
The E-Verify executive order first issued by the Bush Administration last summer went into effect today after four separate delays. The order requires federal contractors to check the employment eligibility of all employees working on a federal contract worth at least $100,000.
THIS LABOR DAY: Elites Decry Horrible Worker Situation -- but only a few recognize their immigration policies making it worse
On a dismal day for America's workers, I see a few bright spots that all of us connected to NumbersUSA could make brighter through focused activism this fall. (Look inside.) But the utter hypocrisy and insanity of the elites is on full display as they lament the huge oversupply of workers for jobs after 21 months of a recession in which they have called for more immigration to meet what they claim is a U.S. "worker shortage!"
Federal Ruling Allows E-Verify Executive Order to Take Effect
Roy explains how the federal court's ruling in favor of the E-Verify executive order will help unemployed Americans and details how DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano plans to water down this pro-American worker executive order.
After Court Ruling, Obama Now Should Replace Illegal Workers With Unemployed Americans
The Obama Administration has dilly-dallied all year in carrying out the Bush regulation to require federal contractors to run new hires through E-Verify. Now that a federal judge has thrown out a court challenge by greedy businesses as essentially being nonsense, Obama should drop plans for watered down regs and use this as an opportunity to put far more Americans back to work than has happened through last winter's Stimulus Bill.

UPDATE: Immigration Amendments to Homeland Security Bill in Jeopardy
Two weeks ago, the Senate passed four immigration-related amendments that would ensure the completion of the border fence, mandate E-Verify for federal contractors, permanently extend E-Verify and restart the suspended no-match program. But those amendments are in danger with a looming conference committee and a possible omnibus bill that could replace the bill altogether.
SAVE Act Reintroduced in House and Senate
Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) introduced the SAVE Act to both chambers of Congress today with bi-partisan support. The SAVE Act would provide a comprehensive approach to immigration enforcement by securing the borders, putting an end to unlawful employment, and enhancing and fully utilizing current methods of interior enforcement.

The system remains mostly voluntary, although 12 states have some mandatory usage laws in effect. Still, E-Verify is being used by more than half a million worksites and could have more than 12 million queries in 2009.

We're Delivering Your Petitions Every Day -- To Keep Illegal Aliens From Putting Americans Out Of Work
We delivered petitions to Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid again this morning -- 10,503 of them. That makes 71,868 so far this week. The offices are politely accepting them each day. The NumbersUSA staff have also spoken in cities across the country via radio shows spreading the same message: Congress needs to keep in the Homeland Security spending bill all the Senate-passed protections of U.S. workers to stop illegal aliens from taking their jobs.
House Rules Panel Denies Immigration-Reduction Votes on Spending Bills
The House Rules Committee, in separate actions involving the FY2010 Energy and Water Appropriations bill (S 1436) and the Financial Services Appropriations bill (H.R. 3170), denied a floor vote on immigration-reduction amendments that would have helped protect American workers. In drafting the rule that defines acceptable House floor amendments for the Energy and Water Appropriations bill, the Rules Committee refused to allow votes on amendments that would have required federal contractors to use the E-Verify program as a condition for receiving government funds [sponsored by Rep.
'U6' Unemployment -- The People Who Will Be Hurt Most If Pelosi & Reid Kill E-Verify Parts Of DHS Spending Bill
"U6." No, it isn't a new version of an Irish rock group. It is the more complete look at the victims of unemployment. These are the people who would most benefit from the expanded use of E-Verify to open up jobs held by illegal aliens. Let's make sure that Pelosi, Reid and Obama look at the 25 million American victims before they choose to once again favor illegal aliens for the jobs.
Author-to-Author with Al Franken -- No Effect on His Anti-Verification Vote
New Minnesota Senator Al Franken was still a comedian and just starting to be an author when I met him at a radio studio in San Francisco in 1996. I was pitching my "The Case Against Immigration" book. I made the case to him in the waiting room. He didn't buy it then. And he definitely didn't buy it last week in his first votes in favor of keeping U.S. jobs in the hands of illegal foreign workers.

After 4 Senate Victories, How Do We Protect Them From Backroom Death?
Most of you are shocked by the Senate's passage of 4 immigration enforcement amendments this week that would open up hundreds of thousands of jobs to unemployed Americans over the next year alone. This is the Senate that has stood against U.S. workers in favor of illegal aliens repeatedly. While the victories really do represent great progress for our side, we also can be 95% sure that Senate Leader Reid, House Speaker Pelosi and Pres. Obama have every intention of killing these amendments in a backroom deal, just like they killed House-passed enforcement in February. But you can keep that from happening.
