Kansas House Repeals Law that Offers In-State Tuition to Illegal Aliens

The Kansas State House has repealed an existing law that allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public institutions of higher learning. Current Kansas law allows illegal aliens who attended a Kansas high school for at least three years and graduated to receive the tuition benefit. The bill to reverse that law passed 69-to-49.

New GAO Report Says Less Than Half of Southwest Border is Secure

A new study from the Government Accountability Office finds that less than half of the 2,000-mile border with Mexico is "operationally controlled" by the Border Patrol. The study says the Southwest border with Mexico "is vulnerable to cross-border illegal activity." The study evaluated the Border Patrol's ability to detect and respond to cross-border illegal activity and detect and respond to illegal activity at the border or after entry into the United States.

With new rumors of an immigration bill developing in the Senate, it has become important to define the meaning of “operational control.” Chairwoman Candice Miller (R-Mich) even admitted that “it’s starting to become a buzz word…but we really don’t know what it means.”

Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) has introduced H.R. 692 that would would eliminate the extended family visa categories (e.g., married sons and daughters of citizens, etc.), thus ending “chain migration” as recommended by the bi-partisan Barbara Jordan Commission in 1995. Current immigration law allows U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor non-nuclear, adult family members, creating an endless chain of mass legal immigration. Rep. Gingrey's bill would end this practice by disallowing all adult family members from receiving legal permanent residency.

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement hosted a hearing Thursday morning on the merits of E-Verify and its capability to protect American jobs from illegal workers. The Committee conducted a demonstration of the E-Verify where it made its case as a quick, easy, and user-friendly program for determining the employment eligibility of a new employee. But that didn't keep some of the more skeptical Members from offering their opposition.

Arizona to Sue Federal Government for Failure to Enforce Immigration Laws

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has announced that the state will launch a counter-lawsuit against the federal government for its failure to enforce immigration laws. Gov. Brewer said the federal government has failed to secure the Arizona border with Mexico and has passed the costs of illegal immigration onto the state.

The Virginia House passed several immigration enforcement bills on Tuesday, including a mandatory E-Verify bill and a bill that would prohibit illegal aliens from attending state colleges and universities. All bills originated in the House, and Tuesday was the last day the chamber could vote on its own bills.

Virginia Senate Committee Approves E-Verify

A Virginia State Senate Committee has unanimously approved a bill (SB1049) that would require the mandatory use of E-Verify for all state contractors with at least 50 employees and a contract with the state for more than $50,000. The original bill, offered by Democratic State Sen. George Barker, would have applied to all state contractors, but the Courts of Justice passed the bill with a substitute amendment containing the new limitations.

The Pew Hispanic Center's annual report on the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. provides this astounding conclusion: The number of illegal foreign workers holding U.S. jobs has remained steady at about 8 million, just barely below the level in 2007 before the recession and disappearance of millions of U.S. jobs. The federal government has been an utter failure at protecting the interests of unemployed Americans.

San Antonio Pastor Charged with Selling Fake Green Cards and Social Security Cards

ICE breaks up N.C. ties to network that creates false paperwork for immigrants

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents say they have broken up local ties to a brutal nationwide network of Hispanics who they believe produce false documents for illegal immigrants on the South Carolina Grand Strand and elsewhere in the region.

Some of the false documents were distributed in the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area by Victor Hugo Roa-Alzua, who will be arraigned in federal court Tuesday on five felony charges that he conspired to produce and transfer false identification documents.
