August Recess Town Hall Stories from NumbersUSA Activists

Today marks the 19th day of August Congressional Recess in which the open-borders forces were supposed to have been able to change enough Republican Representatives' minds to get a full-scale amnesty and doubling of legal immigration to the floor of the House.  I'm pleased to say that thus far there has been almost no sign of changed minds thanks in good measure to NumbersUSA activists who have attended more than 200 town hall meetings.  These are constituents seeing their own Congressman and not a case of busing people in from the outside or staging political theatre as the other side has done so often.

New RNC Policy Promotes Amnesty Over Attrition Through Enforcement

Updated: August 20th, 2013, 2:05 pm

At its Summer meeting last week, the Republican National Committee rejected the Attrition Through Enforcement policy established in its 2012 National Platform in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens. Since illegal aliens would be legalized but denied citizenship, the RNC’s spin suggests the new policy would cause no harm. But the work permits offered to illegal aliens cause the greatest damage. And since most voters do not support this shift in policy, the RNC has likely harmed itself.

“This poll frames the issue the way we want to frame it … in a jobs context,” said Roy Beck, head of NumbersUSA, which wishes to reduce the annual influx of 1 million immigrants and 650,000 non-agricultural guest workers.

“Americans don’t like the idea of increased immigration in the Senate bill … and a plurality of them would rather reduce immigration,” he said.

MAJORITY IN SURVEY OPPOSE MORE FOREIGN WORKERS IN REFORM BILL

The public, while having some sympathy for some amnesty under all those very tough conditions, isn’t interested at all in increasing immigration and increasing the level of foreign workers," said NumbersUSA executive director Roy Beck.

Beck said that many Americans are comfortable with the basic idea of allowing a path to citizenship for immigrants but are not at all happy with the idea of a wave of foreign workers flooding the country.

NUMBERSUSA DIRECTOR: PAUL RYAN 'IDEOLOGICALLY COMMITTED' TO OPEN BORDERS

Roy Beck said he believes Ryan is "ideologically committed to the idea of open borders" because he "comes out of an ideology that just does not accept that the law of supply and demand works when it comes to labor markets."
He said he was "not very hopeful" that Ryan would abandon those beliefs.
Beck said Ryan was not a part of the "patriotic libertarianism" wing that recognizes the importance of borders.

Though the Senate ultimately passed the bill, with just enough Republicans to give it a comfortable bump over the 60 needed votes, Beck said he’s optimistic that his organization will succeed in defeating an all-out congressional embrace of the measure.

“Every single Republican is hearing from their grassroots,” Beck told Fox News Latino. “They have to say, for them, does the corporate wing or the wage-earning wing [of the Republican Party] prevail?”
