The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) issued by Federal District Judge James Robart against Pres. Trump's Jan. 27 executive order. While the Ninth Circuit's job in this ruling was simply to decide whether the executive order was lawful and constitutional, it essentially ignored that question and based its decision on politics.
Last night Jeff Sessions was confirmed as the new Attorney General by a 52 to 47 vote. Sessions received support from all 51 Republicans and 1 Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin. Sen. Sessions marked himself as present but abstained from casting a vote himself.

Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, pointed out that previous proposals for “comprehensive immigration reform” contained provisions to reduce chain migration. He said this bill would reverse decades of immigration policy that have resulted in the nation currently housing the most foreign-born residents in U.S. history.
“It would be the biggest change in immigration since the 1965 act,” he said. “It would be the first one since 1924 that would act to reduce immigration.”
Border apprehensions dropped in January according to new data from Customs and Border Protection. Apprehensions were down 27% compared to apprehensions in December. The monthly statistics typically provide a snapshot of how many foreign nationals are trying to cross the border illegally. The drop in January could be due to seasonal flows, but could also be due to the new Trump administration.
Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) will be an original cosponsor of Sen. Tom Cotton's (R-Ark.) Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act, or RAISE Act, which will end future Chain Migration and the Visa Lottery. Both senators held a press conference today to discuss the legislation.
