One of the storylines that emerged following Donald Trump’s victory on November 8 was that President-elect Trump outperformed Mitt Romney’ s 2012 showing with Hispanic voters. Trump also approached the 31 percent of Hispanic vote that Senator John McCain received in 2008, after McCain had spent the three years prior to the election pushing a massive amnesty bill in the Senate.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, criticized secret negotiations between the Obama Administration and Australia for the resettlement of migrants from terrorist-producing countries refused under the latter’s border blockade policy. The migrants are from Iran and Sudan -- both State Department-designated state sponsors of terrorism -- plus Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iraq.

Saying America is “a nation of immigrants” is a tautology, an axiomatic statement that should not prevent us from formulating an immigration policy that best serves our needs today. When politicians or opponents of immigration reduction blithely say America is a nation of immigrants, most often they are making the argument that history precludes any reduction in immigration at present, even though the current immigration level is more than double the historical average.
The Obama Administration is seeking to stay proceedings in the executive amnesty court case until February 2017, thus giving the Trump Administration time to take over. Obama had sought to block a temporary injunction placed on his Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program and extended Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which would have allowed him to implement the amnesties before leaving office.

President-elect Donald Trump pledged to block federal funding to sanctuary cities as part of his 100-day action plan, but the Democratic mayors of Chicago, New York City, and other cities say they won’t change their policies protecting criminal aliens. The new Administration may focus first on sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with ICE detainer requests while Congress considers legislation to further define sanctuary city prohibitions and the president’s sanctions authority.
According to DHS 46,195 individuals were apprehended in October at the southern border, up from 39,501 in September and 37,048 in August. This is the highest number of illegal aliens caught in one month since June 2014, the height of the unaccompanied minors border surge.
