H.R. 5742, the Uniting Families Act, would create a visa for adult children of U.S. citizen servicemen and their spouses and children. The visa would be for 5 years, be capped at 5,000 per year, and allow recipients to adjust to Legal Permanent Residents.
There's been a lot of public outcry in the year since the tragic shooting death of San Francisco woman Kate Steinle at the hands of a seven-times convicted and five-times deported illegal alien who was set free because of the city's sanctuary policies. But Congress has done little to force jurisdictions to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement even when it has detained a violent criminal alien.
Under urging from Rep. John Culberson's (R-Texas), the Department of Justice announced today that it will block certain federal grants for cities that interfere with federal immigration agents. The DOJ directive requires state and local law enforcement agencies to take an oath that their policies do not interfere “in any way” with requests for immigration information from federal authorities.

United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that illegal alien parents crossing the border with children are not protected under the 1997 Flores-agreement and can be held in detention until they have an immigration hearing. Children crossing with their parents, however, must be processed quickly and released to a relative or sponsor.
In a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Alabama Sens. Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby said that illegal-alien minors are again surging across the border but “only a small fraction have been removed from the United States." At least 60 percent of such minors in 2014 and 2015 should have been deported because they did not qualify for placement in the U.S. as “unaccompanied alien children’ under the law.
Between 1776-1965, annual immigration averaged 250,000 people per year. Congress changed the law in 1965 and sent the numbers skyrocketing.

H.R. 5657, the H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act, would reform and reduce fraud and abuse in the H-1B and L-1 guest-worker visa programs. The Senate companion bill is S. 2266.
Senate Democrats voted down procedural motions to begin debate on bills to strip funding from sanctuary cities (S. 3100) and impose stricter penalties on repeat border crossers (S. 2193). Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., complained the bills would undermine local law enforcement and overcrowd prisons. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the bills were supported by the law enforcement community and designed to prevent more murders by illegal aliens.
The number of Syrian refugees entering the U.S. doubled from May to June 2016, from 1,060 in May to 2,381 in June. This brings the total number of Syrian refugees to 5,186 and means Pres. Obama only needs to bring in 1,604 refugees per month through September to reach his goal of 10,000 Syrian refugees for the fiscal year.
