2009: Sponsored H.R. 1751, American Dream Act, introduced by Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.)
2009: Sponsored S. 729, Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2009, introduced by Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.).
S. 729, Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2009, would grant amnesty to illegal aliens under the age of 35 who have been in the United States for five consecutive years and came (illegally) to the United States before the age of 16. Such a reward for illegal immigration serves as an incentive for more illegal immigration.
The bill would amnesty certain illegal aliens under the pretense of providing educational opportunities for children. Specifically, it would repeal Section 505 of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, which prevents illegal aliens from being eligible for in-state tuition.
In media coverage -- from cable news programs to newspaper editorial boards to YouTube videos -- immigration appears to be taking a backseat only to the struggling economy and late night talk show appearances by President Obama.
A new poll reveals that New Jersey residents are against both driver's licenses for illegal aliens and in-state tuition benefits for the children of illegal aliens. The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll conducted in February shows that 62% oppose a limited type of driver's license and only 32% support in-state tuition rates for children of illegal aliens.
Pres. Obama supposedly got into hot water with disabled Americans last week when he made a joke about his bowling skills and Special Olympics to Jay Leno. But his true insult to the handicapped was his insistence last week on keeping 7 million jobs (currently held by illegal aliens) out of reach. The first-ever official unemployment rate report on the disabled tells the story (and my handicapped wife has a story, too) . . .
While executing a drug search warrant, Houston Police Officer Rick Salter was shot and critically wounded by an illegal alien with three prior drug arrests. The incident has the president of the Houston Police Officers Union Gary Blankinship urging the Mayor of Houston to change a policy that forbids officers from inquiring about a suspect's immigration status.
Cardinal Francis George on Saturday called on the Obama administration to end Immigration raids across the country and pushed for passage this year of "comprehensive Immigration reform" that is "fair and compassionate."
