The Obama administration itself seemed taken aback by the raid by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano vowing to Congress that she would "get to the bottom of this."

The secretary of Homeland Security has ordered of a review of an immigration raid in Bellingham in which a third of the employees of an engine manufacturing shop were arrested.

28 Illegal Workers Arrested in Obama's First ICE Raid
Immigration officials arrested 28 illegal workers at Yamato Engine Specialists in Bellingham, Wa. on Tuesday. The workplace raid was the first during the Obama Administration. ICE officials said they believe most of the 28 arrested gained employment by using fake social security numbers and counterfeit documents.

Omnibus Appropriations Bill would Extend E-Verify
Earlier this week, the House released a $410 billion omnibus package that would extend E-Verify if approved. E-Verify, the federal government's workplace verification tool, is set to expire on March 6, but the bill would extend it to the end of fiscal year which is Sept. 30.

SupportH.R. 1199, Scott Gardner Act, would require DHS to share immigration information with the Department of Justice and submit a joint report to Congress about improving federal immigration databases. It would require each state and their local law enforcement agencies to collect and report all immigration and DWI-related information to receive State Criminal Alien Assistance Program funding. DWI-related information would then appear as a flag on the wants/warrants page of the National Crime Information Center database.
