The European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled today that EU countries can deny humanitarian visas to individuals who intend to apply for asylum once they are in the country. The court warned that allowing third-country nationals to obtain entry visas to obtain international protection in the EU state of their choice “would undermine the general structure” of the bloc’s asylum system.
To require the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish a veterans visa program to permit veterans who have been removed from the United States to return as immigrants, and for other purposes.
A Florida state judge last week ruled that President Trump’s sanctuary city executive order unconstitutionally coerced a county, which had been holding an alien for pickup and deportation by ICE. Eleventh Judicial Circuit Judge Milton Hirsch granted the alien’s claim and ordered his release even though there is no precedent for individuals making such claims based on the 10th Amendment.
Pres. Donald Trump signed a new executive order today that rescinds his Jan. 27 refugee order reworking several of the original provisions while keeping others intact. The new order, which goes into effect on March 16, will pause the issuance of new visas for six countries identified as hot spots for terror for 90 days, pause the refugee resettlement program for 120 days, and cap overall refugee resettlement for FY2017 at 50,000.
The attacks on this kind of immigration moderation started to look more like a blizzard after President Trump made strong statements to Congress Tuesday night about the need to change the legal immigration system to help American workers.
