The Mexican Central Bank reported a 20% drop in April in money sent from Mexicans working in the United States. The 20% drop is compared to remittances from a year ago, and the bank reports that it's the largest single month drop since they began tracking the transfers.
I testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning on one of many bills proposed to increase green cards and immigration at a time of incredibly high unemployment. My remarks probably could apply to any bill that increases green cards. Members of Congress almost never consider the cumulative cost of all the green cards they decide to hand out. I called on them to put that consideration first.
Rep. Nathan Deal's (R-Ga.) bill to end Birthright Citizenship added 25 new cosponsors after the Memorial Day recess. The bill currently has 71 cosponsors in addition to Deal and is one of the five bills closely followed by NumbersUSA.
Texas Rep. John Culberson and Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter were among the 40 original cosponsors when Rep. Nathan Deal introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009 (H.R.1868) last month.
