California's sanctuary law could be repealed if a group founded by "Angel Parents" is successful. The group, Fight Sanctuary State, introduced a ballot initiative to overturn the California Values Act, which limits cooperation between state and local authorities and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) bureau.
The initiative would require local police to cooperate with ICE, including notifying officials when an illegal alien is in custody. The measure also would impose criminal penalties on local government officials who obstruct immigration enforcement, and prevent the California Department of Motor Vehicles from issuing illegal aliens new licenses.
"Angel Parents" are parents whose children were killed by illegal aliens. In an interview with FOX New today, Angel Parent Don Rosenberg said "The misnomer about this sanctuary state law is that it doesn't protect illegal aliens at all. It only protects illegal aliens who have committed crimes…(A) lot of people think that it just protects 'law-abiding illegal aliens' and it doesn't at all."
A number of California cities are already resisting the sanctuary law. The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted to condemn the law and join the Trump Administration’s lawsuit seeking to overturn it. Los Alamitos voted to exempt itself from the law and join the lawsuit as well. Other cities are considering similar moves.
