According to sources familiar with the decision, Joe Biden plans to allow the pandemic-related job-saving ban on visas and certain temporary workers to expire today.
The moratorium, enacted by President Trump, predominantly affected H-1B visas used by technology companies to hire foreign nationals at the direct expense of recently graduated, unemployed, underemployed, and even currently employed Americans. Unsurprisingly, Biden is opting not to renew the job-saving program.
Biden’s decision will please, above all else, corporations from Silicon Valley and India’s IT services leaders, which had pressured the administration to lift the ban ever since the new president took office, erroneously arguing it hurt U.S. companies, reports Newsmax.
Biden last month withdrew a related Trump executive order that stopped the issuance of new green cards, citing the pandemic -- a memorandum that drastically cut legal immigration to the U.S. under the Trump Administration.
Sadly, President Biden did nothing but echo the disingenuous and bromidic demands of Big-Tech, Wall Street, and foreign outsourcing operations when he reversed the green-card memorandum last month, stating:
To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here. It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world.
