In a recent interview with Fox News, President Joe Biden's former Chief of Border Patrol, Rodney Scott, stated that President Biden and his Department of Homeland Security is spending millions of taxpayer dollars each day to NOT build effective border barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border.
On Tuesday's "Special Report," Rodney Scott stated that the U.S. Border Patrol warned the Biden Administration repeatedly that "if we dropped all of the initiatives that have been put in place over the last several years that we would get an influx of mass migration that we would not be able to control."
Scott seemed specifically miffed by the failed leadership and willful neglect of duty within the DHS higher-ups, stating that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas "knows what needs to take place." Scott added about the Secretary:
[Mayorkas] clearly understands and knows how to control the border and what needs to take place. It was very clear there are people involved in this process that have been involved before, and they're choosing not to take simple, commonsense steps to secure the border.
Scott also pointed out another fact - which may be less evident than Mayorkas's failure as Secretary of DHS - Scott explained that the federal government was at one point spending approximately 5,000,000 taxpayer dollars per day between DoD and DHS to keep effective border barrier projects on hold.
Scott added that while projects are still "on hold," tax dollars are still being paid to contractors, NOT TO BUILD the barriers. Meanwhile, Joe Biden has overseen an astonishing 1,245,183 illegal alien encounters at the border since his inauguration, just eight months ago.
Additionally, Scott explained that while the border projects are on hold, all construction materials, including sensitive high-tech surveillance systems, cameras, hundreds of miles of fiber optic cables, as well as stacks and stacks of paneling and construction equipment, are all just "sitting there."
The former chief's claims are backed up by a weighty Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management report released in July. That report found that around $2,000,000,000 had been wasted by the Biden Administration in stopping construction.
Scott rightfully blamed the messaging coming from the White House and DHS as part of why the U.S. is still facing the worst border crisis in over two decades, pointing to a fundamental difference between the Trump and Biden administrations: "acknowledging that border security is critical to Homeland Security."
Scott concluded, "The result of that is the message goes out. And then instead of having a couple of hundred encounters a day, we quickly went up to about 6,000 encounters a day." Before retiring in June, Scott reported that Border Patrol caught people from 150 different countries illegally crossing the southern land border.
