When the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) tried to post four recent reports on jobs to Facebook last week they realized they were blocked. They received a message stating, “Your message could not be sent because it includes content that other people on Facebook have reported as abusive.”
Only after Breitbart News asked Facebook what had happened did they finally receive a response and the ban was lifted. A week after Facebook had been notified about the issue a spokesman responded saying, “This was an error and they shouldn't have any issues sharing the links now.” The spokesman cited that a link issue had caused the problem. “An error in our system that helps block bad links on Facebook incorrectly marked some URLs as malicious or inappropriate. We've resolved the issue and apologize for the inconvenience this caused," he said.
CIS has yet to hear from Facebook directly or to receive any feedback on how to stop this from happening in the future.
The author of the banned reports and CIS Director of Research, Steven Camarota, commented on the issue saying, "The poor job market is one of the most important issues confronting the country. It is extremely troubling that Facebook would block studies that simply report government data on how immigrants and natives are faring in the U.S. job market. These reports have received a good deal of attention from various media outlets and have been discussed by members of Congress. It is absurd to suggest they are 'abusive.'"
Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, strongly supports more immigration, especially in increasing the number of H1-B visas that allow him to hire foreign tech workers at a lower wage than American workers. Zuckerberg along with other tech leaders such as Bill Gates have formed an organization specifically dedicated to this goal.
