The House approved an amendment on Wednesday night offered by Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) to the Energy and Water Development spending bill for FY17. The amendment would prevent any funds from the bill going to sanctuary cities. It was approved by voice vote.
Even though the amendment was approved, the chances of the underlying bill passing the full House are uncertain for reasons other than Rep. Black's amendment.
The Energy and Water Appropriations bill for 2017 (H.R.5055) provides funding for national security, critical infrastructure, and energy development.
Rep. Black has supported similar sanctuary cities amendments to past spending bills and has earned a career A+ grade.
