Immigration and Customs Enforcement will dedicate more agents and resources to arrest illegal criminal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions the agency's acting director Thomas Homan said. ICE has received approval to hire 10,000 new agents and most will be sent to the 300 sanctuary jurisdictions who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
Homan called sanctuaries "ludicrous," adding, "In the America I grew up in, cities didn't shield people who violated the law."
ICE will redirect its resources toward sanctuary jurisdictions and the interior because of the historic lows in illegal border crossings.
Homan credited Pres. Trump’s policies for the 70% drop in illegal border crossings.
"What this president has done is taken the handcuffs off of law enforcement officers who are charged with enforcing immigration laws," Homan said.
"What I want to get to is a clear understanding from everybody, from the congressmen to the politicians to law enforcement to those who enter the country illegally, that ICE is open for business," Homan recently told a Congressional panel." We're going to enforce the laws on the books without apology, we'll continue to prioritize what we do. But it's not OK to violate the laws of this country anymore, you're going to be held accountable."
