A recent ICE enforcement report, released by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, shows that with 75% of FY16 over ICE is on track to complete only 230,000 deportations, the lowest number since 2006. The report showed a decline in all ICE enforcement activity meaning fewer aliens have been put on the deportation track in 2016.
As of June 2016, ICE has completed 168,781 deportations this year. This puts the agency on track for about 230,000 deportations for FY16, a slight decline from the 235,413 deportations completed in FY15.
Around 72% of these deportations come from turnbacks at the border, a figure that before Pres. Obama took office was not counted as a deportation. Only around 46,511 interior deportations have been completed, this means only around 63,700 may be completed this year. This is a decline from the 69,478 interior deportations completed in FY15 and only one-fourth the number completed by ICE in 2009, the first year of the Obama administration.
Despite high profile cases involving illegal criminal aliens and Pres. Obama’s claim that deporting criminal aliens is a “priority” under his Priority Enforcement Program (PEP), the number of criminal deportations also declined in FY16. ICE has only completed 43,005 criminal deportation so far in FY16, putting them on pace for around 59,000 criminal alien deportations for the year.
