The number of illegal alien minors coming across the border is steadily increasing hitting a record high for the month of October according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. Around 5,000 unaccompanied minors were caught at the US-Mexico in October, double the number from October 2014 during the border surge. In the early part of November 3,000 illegal alien minors have already been apprehended. These are record numbers for the usually slow, colder months.
Spokesman for Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Stephen Miller, cites the Obama administration’s lax immigration enforcement policies such as: Pres. Obama’s executive amnesties, halting deportations, and the “catch-and-release” policies for illegal alien women and children as “pull factors” for illegal aliens to come to the U.S.
Illegal aliens caught at the border say they believe that under Pres. Obama’s policies they will receive “permisos” or passes to stay in the United States if they can reach the border.
Once an illegal alien minor has crossed the border they are quickly processed and released by the Department of Health and Human Services then placed with relatives or in foster homes. They are then eligible for free education putting pressure on local public schools to accommodate the children. The child is eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, medical and dental coverage, all paid for by American taxpayers.
“It’s the same story as last year,” said Shawn Moran, spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council, the labor union that represents line agents. “Our agents are still getting hammered.”
