Rep. Brian Babin (TX-36) Introduces H.R.140, Birthright Citizenship Act

Published:

Congressman Brian Babin (R-Texas-36) introduced H.R.140, “To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth,” to the new Congress on January 4th.

This legislation, if passed, would amend the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act to prevent children born to illegal-alien parents in the United States from automatically receiving U.S. citizenship, following a more true interpretation of the 14th Amendment.

The Birthright Citizenship Act would restrict the granting of automatic citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. The legislation would also allow the granting of automatic citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is an alien serving the armed forces.

The Birthright Citizenship Act is one of NumbersUSA's 5 Great Solutions to reforming the nation's immigration system. The United States is one of only two industrialized nations (Canada) to still grant automatic citizenship to all children born in the country.
