Border patrol agents in Arizona apprehended 654 illegal aliens in just two days this week in Arizona’s Yuma Sector. The migrants, mostly family units or unaccompanied alien children from Guatemala, are not believed to be associated with the Central American caravan.
In a statement, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the migrants illegally entered on both sides of the San Luis Port of Entry the border wall infrastructure is outdated. Larger numbers also have started to illegally cross shallow portions of the Colorado River near Yuma. Agents picked up a group of 55 Wednesday.
The Center for Immigration Studies’ Jessica Vaughan told FOX News, “Yuma is seeing a huge spike and it’s a concern because they don’t have the facilities to process the cases…Most people [have to be] released [and] are not staying in the area … they go join the illegal immigrant population.”
Apprehensions in the Yuma Sector in October (3,600) are up over 150% compared to last year. Total Fiscal Year 2018 numbers were more than double total Fiscal Year 2017 numbers.
