Public Description:
The bill would exacerbate chain migration into the United States by creating the nonimmigrant class of “permanent partner” for aliens over 18 years of age who are: (1) in a committed, intimate relationship with another individual over 18 in which both parties intend a lifelong commitment; (2) financially interdependent with the other individual; (3) not married to or in a permanent partnership with anyone other than the other individual; (4) unable to contract a marriage recognized under federal immigration law with the other individual; and (5) not a first-, second-, or third-degree blood relation of the other individual.
To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate discrimination in the immigration laws by permitting permanent partners of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents to obtain lawful permanent resident status in the same manner as spouses of citizens and lawful permanent residents and to penalize immigration fraud in connection with permanent partnerships.
