Voted as part of the Judiciary Committee to end the visa lottery in 2004
Rep. ZZlastnameZZ voted as part of the House Judiciary Committee in favor of H.R. 775, the Security and Fairness Enhancement for America Act of 2003, to end the visa lottery. This is a program that each year awards another 50,000 visas to people without any regard to humanitarian need or skill level. An estimated 6 million applications for the visa lottery are filed each year, contributing to the processing backlog. As well, the visa lottery has been tied to terrorism. H.R. 775 was passed by the Judiciary Committee by a vote of 18-8.
