RUMOR: Uninsured illegal aliens use more health care than uninsured native-born Americans
FACT: As the nation's health care reform debate rages on, this is one of the misconceptions being thrown around. According to Dr. Steven Camarota from the Center for Immigration Studies, "uninsured illegal immigrants use significantly less in health care than uninsured native-born Americans. They’re just dramatically more likely to be uninsured in the first place."
The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the United States spends $4 billion on health care for illegal aliens. The estimate that approximately 7 million illegal aliens are without health care, 8 million when including their U.S. born children.
