A new survey of Americans from Gallup found that a plurality of Americans support reducing current immigration levels (approximately 1 million per year). 41% of Americans support lowering immigration levels, while only 22% support increasing immigration levels. The Senate-approved Schumer-Rubio amnesty bill, S.744, would nearly triple the number of work permits granted to new legal immigrants over the first decade by doubling legal immigration and granting amnesty to more than 11 million illegal aliens.
Gallup surveyed 1,000 Americans over the age of 18.
50% of Republicans, 43% of Independents, and 32% of Democrats prefer lower levels of immigration, according to the poll. Among each group, the percent of Americans who support lowering immigration levels was larger than the percent who want to see levels increased.
Among Republicans, only 14% want to see immigration levels increased.
Among Americans who would face the most job competition from "comprehensive immigration reform", those with a high school degree or less, 47% would like to see immigration levels reduced, while only 19% support seeing the annual number increased.
