Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who represents the border sector most impacted by the ongoing border crisis, bucked Pres. Obama and his party's leadership by saying that the United States should deport all illegal border crossers immediately, regardless of what country they're from. Cuellar said that's the policy the U.S. has for illegal border crossers from Mexico, and the country should treat all illegal border crossers the same.
"If we don't detain and immediately remove them--like we do with Mexican [illegal aliens]--then they're going to keep coming," Cuellar told Breitbart News. "If the president wants to do an executive order, this is the right time to do it: treat everyone the same under the laws."
During his Rose Garden speech earlier this week, Pres. Obama said that he would begin using executive actions to address immigration given Congresses unwillingness to act. Cuellar is urging the President to use his executive authority to bypass a law passed in 2008 that requires adjudication for illegal border crossers from countries other than Mexico.
"Yes, [in Central America] there are economic situations, high murder rates, and crime," he said. "But the other factor is that they're realizing, 'Hey, if you come to the U.S. with kids, they're going to give you a notice to appear. And with that you can get on a bus and just travel.' And that's exactly what's happening right now."
"The message needs to be: we're going to return you as quickly as possible. Because [currently] they're crossing the river, going up to Border Patrol, and saying, 'Here I am. Now give me my permisos.'"
