Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) is taking matters into his own hands and is ordering 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas border to help stop the illegal-alien border surge. Gov. Perry is expected to make a formal announcement later today, but by making the move before the Obama Administration takes action, Gov. Perry will oversee the Guard's operation since he's the one who deployed the troops.
Several Members of Congress, including Gov. Perry, have been calling for the deployment of National Guard troops. A spokesman for the Border Patrol union told Fox News last week that 70% of Border Patrol agents are working administrative tasks related to the housing and relocation of illegal border crossers instead of securing the border. The National Guard should be able to provide assistance in the housing and caring of those apprehended, so the Border Patrol agents can focus their efforts on securing the border.
Perry's announcement will come as Pres. Obama is expected to meet with the presidents from the three countries that most Unaccompanied Alien Children are coming from - Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
