During the Senate Republican Leadership's press conference on Tuesday, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) posed the question to Senate Democrats "Does the law matter or not?" while discussing the Department of Homeland Security funding bill that would block funding for President Obama's executive amnesties. Sen. Blunt serves as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and is part of the GOP leadership team.
The President said on 22 separate occasions he didn’t have the authority to do what he now has done, and what the Congress should object to. This is an important fight to have. I think we should do everything we can to persuade at least half a dozen Democrats that they should join us to get this done. Sometimes you don’t know how these legislative battles go if you don’t have them, and we intend to have this one.
Sen. Blunt co-sponsored the Senate companion bill to Rep. Robert Aderholt's (R-Ala.) bill that would defund President Obama's executive actions on immigration and make reforms to existing law to limit the scope of future executive actions. Part of his bill were added to the House version of the DHS funding bill. The Senate is expected to bring the DHS funding bill to the floor next week.
