Deming, New Mexico – Border Patrol Agents in Deming, New Mexico arrested a registered sex offender Tuesday with an extensive criminal history, capping a month of numerous sex offender arrests made throughout the El Paso Sector.
Early on March 31, Border Patrol Agents working in the desert west of Columbus, New Mexico, spotted six individuals running north from the international Border. After several hours of tracking the group through the desert, agents were able to locate and apprehend them while attempting to conceal themselves in the brush. After transporting the group back to the Deming Border Patrol Station for processing, it was discovered that one subject, 26 year-old Hugo Escobar Ramirez, of Mexico, was a registered sex offender who pled guilty in 2012 to charges of “Indecent Liberties-with-a-Child”, and was sentenced to 15-27 months in prison. After serving his prison time, Escobar was formally removed from the United States.Escobar has now been charged with Re-Entry, and is being held at the Luna County Detention Center while awaiting prosecution.
