Arizona Sheriff Says Pres. Obama Has Prevented Border Control From Enforcing Immigration Laws

Pinal County Sheriff, Paul Babeu

At a news conference on Tuesday in Florence, AZ Pinal County Sheriff, Paul Babeu denounced Pres. Obama’s immigration policies that hinder border agents from enforcing immigration laws. He criticized the administration for cutting the number of border agents and not allowing them to patrol high-traffic smuggling routes efficiently.

Sheriff Babeu mentioned the 1,500 Border Patrol agents that have been mandated by Congress, “that are not being hired and we see a submission of another 300 Border Patrol agents that are being cut…We should be putting every resource to the border. And instead of threatening the very people who are charged with protecting our country, securing the border, they should be finding ways to further support them."

According to Sheriff Babeu traffic of illegal immigrants is up 25% in the first four months in the 2016 fiscal year. He also said that the number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has increased by a 102% this year.

National Border Patrol Labor Council President, Brandon Judd, agreed with the sheriff and said that the Obama administration is misleading the American people.

“He (Pres. Obama) has manipulated the data, had agents assigned to low traffic areas and attempted to quiet dissent by calling those who question his approach as misinformed without offering an evidence to support these allegations,” Judd said.
