Miami-Dade Mayor Ends Sanctuary Policies Amid Trump Orders

Published:

In response to Pres. Trump’s executive order cutting federal funding to sanctuary jurisdictions Miami-Dade Mayor, Carlos Gimenez, has directed local authorities to honor all ICE detainer requests, ending their sanctuary policy.

“In light of the provisions of the Executive Order, I direct you and your staff to honor all immigration detainer requests received from the Department of Homeland Security,” Mayor Carlos Gimenez wrote in a memo to the interim head of the corrections and rehabilitation department, as reported by the Miami Herald.

Trump’s executive order calls for all federal funding to be cut from any jurisdiction that does not comply with federal immigration laws and calls for a public, weekly report of all criminal actions committed by illegal aliens in those jurisdictions.

The Center for Immigration Studies has estimated that there are around 300 sanctuary jurisdictions in the United States that could lose federal funding if they do not change their sanctuary polices.
