According to a recent report by CNS News, the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) documented more than 1.2 million identity theft cases where illegal aliens used illegitimate social security numbers to file tax returns in 2017.
"We identified 1,227,579 electronically filed tax returns, processed in FY 2017 through April 18, 2017, in which the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number on the return does not match the Social Security Number on the Form W-2," the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) said.
"Note that a Social Security Number may have been used on Form W-2 for more than one of these returns."
A TIGTA report released last month shows that "the IRS placed the employment identity theft marker on 1,346,485 taxpayer accounts," between processing years 2011 and 2016.
TIGTA stated that they did “not have ... information" on the number of cases referred or not referred to federal law enforcement by the IRS.
Additionally, the TIGTA found that the IRS paid out $3.4 billion in tax refunds to illegal aliens in 2015.
