President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the policies pushed by what he termed as “open border activists” were hurting the very people they supposedly aim to help, as he called illegal immigration one of the world’s most crucial challenges. Below is a video of the President's comments on mass immigration.
In a measured, yet hard-hitting address before the U.N. General Assembly, President Trump tore into open-border policies and activists for pushing what he described as an "evil" agenda under the "cloak" of social justice.
Today, I have a message for those open border activists who cloak themselves in the rhetoric of social justice: your policies are not just. Your policies are cruel and evil. You are empowering criminal organizations that
prey on innocent men, women, and children. You put your own false sense of virtue before the lives, well being, and countless innocent people when you undermine border security, you are undermining human rights and human dignity.
He delivered the broadside as part of a message promoting border security, in the U.S. and around the world. This dovetailed with a broader theme of railing against open borders and "globalists," in the halls of the world body increasingly known for espousing that approach.
President Trump then issued a warning to those who believe that they can still gain access to the United States by illegally crossing the southern border.
To anyone conducting crossings of our border illegally, please hear these words; do not pay the smugglers, do not pay the coyotes, do not put yourself in danger, do not put your children in danger. Because if you make it here, you will not be allowed in, you will be promptly returned home, you will not be released into our country.
Finally, the President concluded the immigration portion of his speech with a promise to the American people.
As long as I am president of the United States, we will enforce our laws and protect our borders.
