According to a Customs and Border Protection source, Border Patrol estimates that there have been more than 100,000 known alien “got-aways” since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2022, in October.
To break that number down, Breitbart News reports that the CBP source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that the agency recorded 47,500 alien “got-aways” in October and another 52,000 in November. The source says that well over 600,000 alien “got-aways” can be expected this fiscal year if the trend continues.
The source blamed the constant large flow of illegal aliens being apprehended along the border for the rise in “got-aways,” stating that such surges severely decrease the number of routine patrols along the border, allowing more aliens to slip through the grasp of authorities.
The “got-away” total is reached by counting the number of aliens who trip electronic sensors, activate cameras, or are sighted by unmanned aerial surveillance but evade apprehension by the Border Patrol. According to the article, on average, 1,700 illegal aliens avoided apprehension per day in November.
“Got-away” totals are usually not released to the public but entered into a database that is accessible by higher-ups in the agency; however, according to the CBP source, they are updated daily.
The source explained:
The best we can do is just record the got-aways and move on. We’re trying to increase patrols but the flow of migrants surrendering is unstoppable.
When unmanned areal systems report active border crossings, there is no doubt concerning the accuracy of the numbers, the body counts are precise, what we don’t know, is who they are and why they are crossing the border
The “got-away” total, according to the source, is usually lower than the actual amount of aliens that avoid apprehension as the elements tend to destroy evidence of illegal crossings that were not witnessed through surveillance.
