The Biden Administration has reportedly decided to end the Title 42 public health order that allowed border enforcement officers to immediately expel illegal aliens back across the southern border.
In response to the coronavirus, title 42 was initially created under President Trump and was renewed by the Biden Administration in August of 2021. The CDC order allowed illegal border crossers to be quickly returned across the border to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
According to sources familiar with the decision, the CDC will order the end to Title 42 this week, reports National Review. A draft of the new CDC order, seen by the Wall Street Journal, states, "there is no longer a serious danger" that migrants could spread Covid in border detention facilities."
However, the administration has decided that the new order will not go into effect until late May to allow enforcement agencies to "prepare" for what will undoubtedly be one of the largest illegal alien surges in the nation's history.
Kate Bedingfield, the White House communications director, stated on the expected rise in illegal crossings:
We are planning for multiple contingencies, and we have every expectation that when the CDC ultimately decides it's appropriate to lift Title 42, there will be an influx of people to the border.
National Review ends its article with the reminder that "Over 2 million migrants were detained at the southern border by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in 2021. That was more than double the 921,812 migrants detained in a 2019 surge in illegal crossings. Meanwhile, border agents encountered 164,973 migrants in February, up over 60 percent from February 2021."
