Recall of State Enforcement Champion Russell Pearce of Arizona Holds Little Relevance for Nationwide Effort

Some of the open-borders bloggers and leaders are suggesting that the recall of Arizona state senator Russell Pearce means the beginning of the end for state efforts across the country to stop illegal aliens from taking jobs and taxpayer-provided benefits.    And some of our allies in other state legislatures are even asking if they should feel vulnerable. My short response is that the Pearce recall last week was largely a localized situation without much relevance to enforcement efforts nationwide. . . .

Most folks are focusing on the 2012 elections now but it’s important to remember that a few states hold 2011 gubernatorial and state legislative elections. The results of some state legislative races, in particular, will influence whether certain states can enact in 2012 the immigration-enforcement legislation that failed this year.

Not by design, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is proving that appearing to be more concerned about illegal-alien workers than about unemployed Americans doesn't work in Republican primaries.  Widely expected to run away with the Florida Straw Poll yesterday, he finished in a virtual four-way tie for second, more than 20 points behind the winner. 

Santorum & Johnson Drearier Than Others -- Daniels Barely Less So (more candidate ratings)

Successful businessmen Donald Trump and Herman Cain have attracted a lot of attention in their own ways because of their announced interest in running for President in 2012. Although some have been excited that one of these might provide real leadership on immigration, we haven't found much in which to place hope for that.
