I've been with NumbersUSA for all of our 14 years. One of my jobs is to send regular emails summarizing the latest on our political struggle, while also asking members to donate.

(Thanks for reading my letters and helping with the funding. This entire website, including our faxing capability and Congressional gradecards, is supported by small donations from you members.)

I write these letters to members, and thousands of you write me back. One thing I've noticed: Giving automatic U.S. citizenship to children of illegal immigrants and tourists, the so-called "birthright citizenship," seems to mortify members more than any other issue. It just seems unjust.

In Mexico, Pres. Obama indicated that all of us who regard legalizing 12-20 million illegal aliens as "unacceptable" are "demagogues." I think he used the term in its most pejorative sense, meaning that we use "false claims" to appeal to "popular prejudices." The President needs to get to know us better. NumbersUSA has been asking all year for a chance to explain our position at the White House. Even Pres. Bush let us do that a few times. How about now, Pres. Obama?

A tiny bit of hopeful evidence emerges that consistent, long-term and substantial U.S. citizen opposition to the open-borders agenda may eventually back off some of the wealthiest foundations that are funding the pro-amnesty efforts. A report on the website of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation suggests leaving the political arena on immigration because of the great disappointment in losing the amnesty battles of 2007.
