The Georgia House and Senate have agreed to a bill that will require businesses in the state with at least 10 employers to use E-Verify. The bill expands the state's current E-Verify law that requires state contractors to use E-Verify.

The Keeping the Pledge on Immigration Act of 2011 (H.R.1274) requires the Administration to deploy national guard troops to the border and includes the CLEAR Act that requires cooperation between the federal government and state and local law agencies in the enforcement of immigration laws.

Rep. Gary Miller (R-Calif.) has introduced the Loophole Elimination and Verification Enforcement (LEAVE) Act, H.R.1196, which is a comprehensive immigration enforcement bill that would require the use of E-Verify for all employers nationwide, end the practice of birthright citizenship, prohibit states from granting in-state tuition benefits to illegal aliens, increase the number of border patrol and immigration and customs enforcement agents, and assist local municipalities in the enforcement of federal immigration laws, among other things.

“No Exit From a Bad Program” (editorial, Feb. 28) claims that the Secure Communities program is problematic because it results in the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants with little or no criminal record. Such a view is misguided and dangerous.
Secure Communities is the Department of Homeland Security’s comprehensive strategy to improve the identification and removal of criminal aliens from the United States.

Business Owner to Serve 10 Months in Prison After Hiring Illegal Aliens
The president of a Southern California furniture manufacturer has been sentenced to 10 months in prison and fines totaling $15,000 for hiring illegal aliens and then obstructing police during the investigation. Rick Vartanian, president of Brownwood Furniture, pleaded guilty to the charges.

In August 2008, the Howard Industries electrical plant in Laurel, Mississippi, was raided by ICE and more than 600 illegal aliens were arrested. Last week, the company pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate America's immigration laws in connection to this raid.

Deportations Up Under Pres. Obama in 2009
