Zogby Poll Exposes Contrasting Immigration Views Between Church Leaders and their Followers

National Cathedral

Published:

A new Zogby poll shows vast differences on immigration issues between church leaders and the people sitting in their pews. Several months ago, leaders from the National Association of Evangelicals and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops supported a mass amnesty before the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, but the majority of their followers prefer an approach of tougher enforcement instead.

Zogby Poll Finds Few in Pew Agree With Their Pro-Amnesty Religious Leaders (almost nobody agrees immigration too low)

One of the largest polls on immigration ever conducted has proven what we suspected all along: National religious leaders who are lobbying Congress for ever-more immigration simply don't represent much of anybody. A good way for a Member of Congress to lose considerable votes back home would be to do on immigration what they are asked by the leaders of most national religious agencies. Most Christians and Jews want LESS immigration, not more, Zogby found.

One of our members called this morning wanting the list of Senators in the 'amnesty bubble' -- those who are most susceptible to changing their action on the potential amnesty vote in early 2010. Those of us who made it to the office in the middle of the DC blizzard shutdown today came up with this list of one-third of the U.S. Senators . . .

Whether you intend on celebrating Christmas or Kwanzaa, are celebrating Chanukah, or have celebrated Eid this holiday season, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) has given us all a gift that needs to be flung from the highest mountain top into the deepest of crevices: H.R. 4321, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009.

Rep. Gingrey Calls for Immigration Reform that Reduces (Not Increases) Foreign Workers

Rep. Phil Gingrey

In response to Rep. Gutierrez's introduction of a comprehensive immigration reform bill (H.R. 4321), Rep. Phil Gingrey is calling for a reform plan that would reduce the importation of foreign workers, not increase it like Gutierrez's bill likely would.

Rep. Gutierrez Introduces Mass Amnesty Bill

Rep. Luis Gutierrez

Published:

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) introduced legislation today that offers amnesty to the nation's estimated 11-18 million illegal aliens. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act (H.R. 4321) would increase annual immigration numbers while putting an end to many of the enforcement mechanisms currently put into place by federal, state and local governments.

Gutierrez champions new immigration reform bill

Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA in Washington, called the bill's timing a tactical error, predicting the bad economy would derail it.

"At a time when we have this incredible unemployment, when we have a mismatch of the number of workers in this country with the number of jobs, it's just incredible to introduce legislation that will increase the number of workers by importing more (immigrant) workers," said Beck, whose group advocates reducing all forms of Immigration.

THE NO-JOBS SUMMITS: Pro-Amnesty Movement Thinks Americans DESERVE To Be Unemployed

Wonder why Washington politicians gathering in Jobs Summits on Thursday show NO interest in pushing illegal aliens out of their jobs in order to put millions of unemployed Americans back to work? A major pro-amnesty coalition has just provided one answer. An article promoted on its website says that illegal aliens are better workers than Americans. If somebody has to be unemployed, it should be the less-desirable American workers who don't have jobs, the article says. Unbelievable? Read on . . .

Senators Call Out Napolitano for Pro-Amnesty Remarks

Sen. Orrin Hatch

Published:

Twelve Senators sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano condemning her for her comments to the Center for American Progress earlier this month. Napolitano expressed her desire to legalize 12 million illegal aliens as part of a "comprehensive immigration reform" adding that it would provide a 'boon' to the economy. But the Senators argued an amnesty would hurt America's 16 million unemployed.

Immigration Suspension Urged During Congressional Testimony

Published:

In a congressional forum Thursday, NumbersUSA President Roy Beck urged Members of Congress to immediately introduce and pass legislation to suspend most immigration in light of the nation's 10.2% U-3 unemployment rate. Three other experts testified that unemployment among Americans is so bad that there is no doubt that every job emptied by pushing an illegal foreign worker out of it would quickly be filled by an American.

Clinton, Napolitano & Other Insane Arguments Last Week for More Foreign Workers

Examples of insanity from just last week that further prove U.S. leaders don't understand the pain of 10.2% unemployment: (a) Sec. of State Clinton went to the Philippines to promise to bring more of its workers to compete with Americans. (b) Top U.S. immigration official Napolitano claims her enforcement is working against illegal immigration and, thus, the nation needs to bring in more foreign workers BECAUSE THE U.S. ECONOMY IS SO BAD! Profoundly Wrong: 'We Were Strangers, Too: the Jewish Campaign for Immigration Reform'

Major Jewish groups have started a campaign saying we should welcome the illegally present because we were strangers in the land of Egypt. But Exodus is very clear that the Jews went to Egypt at the specific direction of the Pharaoh. That means they entered and settled in the country legally. The Jews went to Egypt because there a severe famine in Canaan and all the surrounding lands. There is no such situation in the countries that are sending us large numbers of illegal aliens.

Two new polls reveal that Americans favor lower immigration numbers, stronger border and interior enforcement, and oppose giving amnesty to the 12-18 million illegal aliens currently living in the United States. While Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) works on a “comprehensive immigration reform” bill that would provide a mass amnesty to illegal aliens and increase America’s overly generous immigration numbers, Americans want a very different solution.

GOOD NEWS: 75% of Evangelical Member Denominations DON'T Sign NAE's Pro-Amnesty Document

Sen. Chuck Schumer's attempt to claim overwhelming evangelical Christian support for his pending amnesty legislation has crumbled. His master plan was to use the staff and leadership of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) to give the impression of near unanimity. The NAE tried. But after the members in the pew erupted, only 11 of the 42 NAE member denominations have been willing to sign on to endorse amnesty and Schumer's "comprehensive immigration reform" agenda.

A Few Evangelical Leaders Defend Pro-Amnesty Stance With Straw Men (they say they don't support BLANKET amnesty)

It appears that the dwindling number of evangelical leaders who support amnesty resort to the same kind of dodgy defenses as pro-amnesty politicians in Washington when they come under fire from the voters back home. They set up straw men based on accusations that have NOT been made against them and then proceed to easily knock them down. This is undignified for congressmen, and far more so for otherwise distinguished religious leaders.

So, I confess I helped perhaps a couple of dozen illegal aliens yesterday at my neighborhood church. It is a United Methodist congregation. The bishops of my church nationally are actively lobbying to give permanent U.S. jobs to those illegal aliens. But I want those jobs to go to unemployed Americans. Why do my bishops think they are more ethical and humanitarian than me because they lobby against jobless Americans? And why did I help the illegal aliens?

NAE Deals with Criticism After Immigration Statement

Nearly all the Christian denominations now have national leadership calling for more foreign workers in the U.S. -- even though their members in the pews are suffering in a jobs depression. In this blog, I will list the types of Americans who are suffering the most under the immigration advocacy of these denominational leaders.

Beck said he's sympathetic to Rivera's situation, but added that the DREAM Act is not an appropriate path to citizenship for immigrant children who were brought to this country by undocumented parents.
