CNS News reports that President Obama will take part in an Oct. 8 ceremony establishing a national monument honoring the late Cesar Chavez, the founder of the United Farm Workers union. What’s ironic about Obama’s gesture is that he will likely compare Chavez’ struggle for farm worker rights to the movement to bestow rights (and citizenship) on illegal aliens when Chavez was, in fact, an adamant opponent of illegal immigration.

Arizona to appeal judge's ruling on harboring illegal aliens

The state of Arizona is appealing a judge's decision from earlier this month that ruled that a provision in the state's illegal immigration enforcement law that makes it a crime to harbor illegal aliens is unconstitutional. The provision makes it a crime to transport, shield, or harbor an illegal alien within Arizona's borders, but federal district judge Susan Bolton barred the provision during her Sept. 5th ruling.

As Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Lamar Smith has been with his criticism of the Obama administration's claims that its deported a record number of illegal aliens in recent years. He relaunched that criticism on Wednesday with an op-ed in the Washington Times. Rep. Smith says documents that he has obtained show that the administration has inflated its deportation numbers by more than 140,000 over the last two years.

The mainstream media tuned in when amnesty advocates worried about identity thieves and frauds being left out of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. But since USCIS clarified that it does not want to know about those felony crimes, the press has been silent.

A group of forty former world leaders, including President Bill Clinton and South Africa's President Nelson Mandela, have sounded the alarm on population growth and water scarcity, according to Reuters ("Twenty more "Niles" needed to feed growing population - leaders"). The subject is famililar to Clinton who in 1993 established a Council on Sustainable Development. One of the council's objectives was to chart a path towards the stabilization of U.S. population. 71% of New Mexico Voters Oppose State's Policy of Issuing Driver's Licenses to Illegal Aliens

A new poll conducted by The Albuquerque Journal found that 71% of New Mexico voters oppose the state's law that allows illegal aliens to get a driver's license. The paper found major opposition to the law across all ethnic groups, and only 21% of voters support the law. New Mexico passed a law that allows illegal aliens to get a driver's license in 2003.

E-Verify gets a three-year extension with near-unanimous Congressional support

Oh, how things have changed in just a few years. Today, the House of Representatives approved, with almost unanimous support, a bill that extends E-Verify for another 3 years. The electronic employment verification program, which NumbersUSA believes would have the biggest impact in ending the flow of illegal immigration to the United States, is set to expire at the end of the month, but, now that it's passed through both chambers of Congress, we fully expect Pres. Obama to sign the extension into law.

Study Finds Driver's Licenses for Illegal Aliens has No Impact on Number of Insured Drivers

A report from the Insurance Research Council has found no correlation between a law in New Mexico that allows illegal aliens to receive a driver's license and the number of uninsured motorists on the road. Supporters of state laws that would issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens say it would increase the number of insured motorists, but the study found that the number of uninsured motorists in New Mexico from the time just before the state passed its law and the present are about the same.

District Court OKs Implementation of Arizona’s Immigration Status Check Law

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton denied a request by pro-illegal alien groups to block implementation of an Arizona law that requires police, after a lawful stop and when practicable, to check the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens. Bolton gave Arizona and the U.S. Department of Justice ten days to work out the wording of the order that will officially lift her prior injunction on the law.

Steve King, who also serves as the vice chair for the House Immigration Subcommittee, has extended his support to a group of 10 ICE agents who filed a lawsuit against DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and ICE Director John Morton over the issue of deferred action. The complaint, filed by the agents two weeks ago, charges that the "Morton Memo" issued in 2011 and the DREAM Directive issued in 2012 requires ICE agents to break their oath or office and violate federal immigration laws as passed by Congress.

Numbers USA, a group that advocates for reduction of immigration, is funding the lawsuit on behalf of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents opposed to current policy. The suit goes after two key Obama policies on immigration: prosecutorial discretion to focus on criminals and repeat offenders, as well as deferred action for undocumented young people.

Numbers USA President Roy Beck said he would like to see Romney come out and say he will end the policy -- so far the candidate has refused to say how he would handle deferred action if he became president.

In rulings issued yesterday, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Alabama and Georgia are likely to prevail in cases involving laws that allow police to check the immigration status of certain people suspected of crimes. The union officers say ICE Agents nationwide "are now under threat of disciplinary action, up to and including the loss of their jobs and retirements, simply for attempting to enforce federal laws."

Judicial Watch Files Lawsuit Against DHS to Release Documents Pertaining to Executive Amnesty

Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security requesting documents, under the Freedom of Information Act, regarding the Executive Amnesty that went into effect on August 15. The policy, announced in June, allows illegal aliens who came to the United States before the age of 16, have maintained continuous residence, are 30 years of age or younger, and attend school or hold a high school diploma to receive deferred action and a work permit. An estimated 1.8 million illegal aliens are likely to qualify.

ICE agents' union posts petition to protest Obama Administration orders to disobey immigration laws

It shouldn't be surprising, but it IS reassuring that a union has stepped forward to try to slow down the Obama Administration's increasingly brazen unilateral decisions to ignore -- and even violate -- immigration laws. Earlier today, the union posted a petition on its website that challenges the Administration.  And it has asked American citizens to sign the petition to back up federal employees who feel like they should enforce the immigration laws passed by Congress.

Justice Department Says Illegal Alien Can’t Practice Law in California

The U.S. Department of Justice weighed in on a case before the California Supreme Court in which an illegal alien is requesting permission to obtain a law license and practice law. In a brief to the court, Justice attorneys said federal law prohibits giving public benefits, such as a bar license, to an "unlawfully present alien."

Arizona Moves Closer to Implementing Police Immigration Status Checks

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals this week affirmed the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s SB 1070 law and sent the case to a federal district court for further consideration. If the case survives a last-minute challenge by open-border groups, Arizona could be authorized to implement for the first time a provision that requires police, after a lawful stop, to check the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens.

Senior IRS Officials Ignored Reports on Illegal-Alien Tax Fraud

IRS supervisors reportedly ignored employees who warned against possible tax fraud being committed by illegal aliens. Earlier this year. WTHR in Indianapolis did an investigative report exposing a loophole that allows illegal aliens to request Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITIN) that can then be used to claim the child tax credit on their income tax forms. The IRS currently pays out $6.8 billion in refunds to tax filers using ITINs.
