Politicians who push for increasing legal immigration levels will often make reference to the "Broken Immigration System". By fixing the "broken system" what they really want is to dismantle enforcement and make it easier for employers to access cheap, foreign labor. But they often ignore the real broken pieces within our immigration system that drive more illegal immigration and harm national security and public safety.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Gil Kerlikowske, has named FBI assistant director, Mark Morgan, as the new chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, though he has no prior experience with the agency. This is the first time in the Border Patrol’s 92-year-old history that the chief has been chosen from outside the agency.
S. 3100, the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act, would help end sanctuary policies that aim to protect criminal aliens. The bill would define sanctuary jurisdictions as any state or local jurisdiction that fails to communicate with federal immigration agents and refuses to comply with detainer requests. The bill would also block certain federal funds from sanctuary cities and shield local police from liability when acting on behalf of a federal immigration request.
The House Appropriations Committee adopted an amendment that would extend the H-2B visa increase that was passed in last year’s omnibus bill. The extension would be for one year and could quadruple the number of foreign, H-2B visa workers.
In a 4-4 tie, the Supreme Court today affirmed a 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision that temporarily blocks implementation of President Obama's DAPA and extended DACA amnesties. The case brought by 26 states now returns to District Judge Andrew Hanen’s court for a consideration of its merits.

The labor participation rate for working-age men in the United States ranks in the bottom three among developed nations in the world, according to a new report from the White House's Council of Economic Advisors. The report said that 88% of men between the ages of 25 and 54 are working compared to a high-water mark of 98% in 1954. Men with a high school degree or less are suffering the most and could worsen under efforts by several Members of Congress to increase the number of H-2B visas given to low-skilled foreign workers.
H.R. 5533, the Recognizing American Children Act, would grant amnesty to 2.1 million illegal aliens who were brought to the United States when they were under the age of 16 and have been in the country since 2010. The bill would require that illegal aliens have a GED, is admitted to college, or "valid work authorization", have good moral character, aren't inadmissible or deportable under several categories, haven't been convicted of a felony or 3 misdemeanors on different days, and haven't been under a final order of exclusion, deportation, or removal.

Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) mentioned us in a more flattering way on Wednesday night during debate over his amendment to the Defense spending bill that would have blocked DACA recipients from enlisting in the military.
The Daily Caller reports that President Obama and his predecessors on multiple occasions issued executive orders that banned groups of potentially-dangerous people from entering the United States. Obama and others have claimed Donald Trump’s proposed temporarily ban is unconstitutional and un-American but there is clear precedent and authority under current law, the report notes.
