New Border Initiatives Set to Begin on June 1
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said she plans to move forward with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative that will require U.S. citizens to have a passport or other U.S. approved documents before crossing the border. Currently, U.S. citizens just need proof of ID.
College Board Endorses the DREAM Act, but DREAM isn't the Way to Go
Yesterday, the College Board formally endorsed the DREAM Act amnesty with their release of a report entitled, ‘Young Lives on Hold: The College Dreams of Undocumented Students.’ In its report, the College Board said that opponents of the DREAM Act fail to realize that “one-size-fits-all policies fail to take into account the diversity of the undocumented population.” But the DREAM Act is a “one-size-fits all” policy.
New Employee Verification Act of 2009

No PositionThe bill would extend the E-Verify program for 5 years, phase it out over 3 years, and replace it with a “new” and mandatory system called the Electronic Employment Verification System (EEVS) to verify the status of all (and only) new employees. EEVS would allow employers to access and add information to the Federal National Directory of New Hires, an untested database currently designed to locate individuals, not determine legal status.
Sen. Jeff Sessions Demands Correction from Napolitano
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said during a CNN interview, "crossing the border is not a crime per se." But the secretary was wrong because it is a criminal misdemeanor. 8 USC Sec. 1325(a) says that crossing the border illegally is punishable by up to six months in prison for the first offense. Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Jeff Sessions is demanding a public correction of her statement.

College Board Endorses In-State Tuition Rates for Illegal Aliens
The U.S. College Board has stayed out of the debate about in-state tuition for illegal aliens, until now. The Board, which consists of 5,000 colleges and universities, is urging Congress to allow states to offer in-state rates to illegal aliens and provide a path to citizenship.
Army Reservists to Help Beef Up Border Patrol
A new partnership between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and Army Reservists is aimed at filing the anticipated 11,000 open jobs at the border protection agency this year. Customs and Border Protection is the largest law enforcement agency within the federal government and has the responsibility of, among other things, enforcing the nation's immigration laws.
