Most people reporting on the Chain Migration issue lack the background for understanding it. They tend to treat the attempt to end that immigration category as something new, something maybe fringe, something intensely partisan or even extreme.
Most American voters had to be thrilled to finally hear their long-time immigration desires expressed at the highest level as the President made clear in his State of the Union address that any immigration deal has to eliminate Chain Migration and end the Visa Lottery.
And I'm not sure I have ever heard a President better express the priorities of immigration policies than tonight when Pres. Trump reminded us that such policies must always take into consideration their effect on the vulnerable of our own national community.

DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielson announced new risk-based measures to enhance national security in the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) through intensified screening of foreign nationals from 11 high-risk countries. The 90-day review came in response to Section 3 of Pres. Trump's executive order last January, which required that the DHS Secretary, the Secretary of State, and the Director of National Intelligence work together to determine whether or not any actions taken to address refugee admissions security risks should be terminated or modified.
Securing America's Future Act vs. White House Proposal (revised 1/26/18)
The White House officially released its legislative "framework" for an immigration deal that would expand amnesty for 690,000 plus DACA recipients to about 1.8 million illegal aliens and perpetuate chain migration by allowing the extended-family and employment "backlog" of 4 million to be cleared. How the latter would occur was not made clear.
NumbersUSA has no choice but to oppose what is being suggested as the White House "framework" for a mass amnesty. The plan seems eerily similar to the blueprint used for the 2007 Bush-Kennedy amnesty, which appeared to end chain migration, but wouldn't actually end it for 17 years. NumbersUSA mobilized our huge grassroots army to defeat the 2007 amnesty, and we will do the same if this plan is proposed next week. Americans must demand that the House pass the Goodlatte bill to help block the damaging proposal the White House seems ready to press the Senate to approve.
Press Sec. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced in a White House press briefing Wednesday the that the Trump Admin. will release a bipartisan legislative framework next week that marks a path for immigration reform that both Democratic and Republican lawmakers can agree on.
The Justice Department today told 23 state and local governments that they must prove their police departments do not violate federal anti-sanctuary law. Most of these entities have refused previous requests for information and may now face subpoenas. The Administration set a February 23 deadline for responding.
