The White House officially released its legislative "framework" for an immigration deal that would expand amnesty for 690,000 plus DACA recipients to about 1.8 million illegal aliens and perpetuate chain migration by allowing the extended-family and employment "backlog" of 4 million to be cleared. How the latter would occur was not made clear.
Additionally, the framework would not mandate E-Verify and the jobs magnet would continue to lure illegal aliens to seek employment in the U.S. and entice employers to hire them, taking jobs away American workers.
Prior to the White House's decision to roll out this framework, Rep. Bob Goodlatte introduced H.R. 4760, the Securing America's Future Act (SAFA), which is in line with all of Pres. Trump's earlier stated immigration priorities, including a complete end to Chain Migration, elimination of the Visa Lottery and an amnesty with work permits only to current DACA holders.
Unlike the Goodlatte bill, the White House's framework would grant a mass amnesty of 1.8 million illegals in exchange for only a decrease in chain migration of extended-family through limiting family-based immigration to spouses and minor children. However, family members in the “backlog” would continue to be processed in the immigration system. In effect, chain migration would continue for well over a decade.
