The number of illegal alien minors coming across the border is steadily increasing hitting a record high for the month of October according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. Around 5,000 unaccompanied minors were caught at the US-Mexico in October, double the number from October 2014 during the border surge.
Refuting claims suggesting that no refugees had been linked to terrorism, Sen. The House passed H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act, which would stop Syrian and Iraqi refugees from entering the country unless certified by the heads of the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Director of National Intelligence. Republicans unanimously voted for the bill and were joined by 47 Democrats, giving them a veto-proof majority of 289 "yes" votes.
According to the most recent University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll, Texan voters say illegal immigration is the greatest threat to the U.S. The poll was conducted before the Paris terrorist attacks and listed 11 choices for participants to chose which one they thought presented the greatest threat to America.
According to statistics released by the U.S. Border Patrol yesterday, nearly 10,000 unaccompanied minors and families were arrested last month along the U.S.-Mexico border, a 52 percent jump from last year.
White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest, announced on Thursday that Pres. Obama wants the U.S. to accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year. This is six times more than was admitted into the U.S. this year. He also demanded that Obama prove to the American people that it will protect national security interests before accepting Syrian refugees who could be tied to terrorist groups like ISIS.

Local law enforcement blames conflicting state and federal laws regarding immigration detainer requests as the reason why Martinez, who has been arrested multiple times, was allowed to remain in the US illegally.

This upward trend may continue after Judge Dolly M. Gee’s July 24 preliminary ruling that severely restricts the detaining of illegal alien families.
The House passed legislation that would block certain federal funds to jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with ICE agents, and would authorize the Department of Justice to block policing grants to localities that similarly adopt sanctuary policies. The legislation is weaker than that the House passed earlier this year and does not address the Obama Administration’s sanctuary policies, such as the mass release criminal aliens.
At a House Judiciary Committee hearing today, Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., disclosed new information showing the Obama Administration released from detention 1,423 criminal aliens in fiscal year 2014 who were later convicted of more crimes. These new crimes included assault, burglary, robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping, various types of homicide and manslaughter, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., introduced the Immigration Slush Fund Elimination Act, which would ban DHS from using the fees collected for legal immigration benefits to fund President Obama’s executive amnesties. In a press release, Sen. Cruz said, “The federal government should not be in the business of looting the wallets of those who followed the law and came here legally to fund the President’s illegal and unconstitutional amnesty. This bill will cut off DHS’s credit card.”
The Washington Times obtained new data from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., that shows 57 percent of the criminal aliens released from detention pending deportation were let go on a discretionary rather than on a mandatory basis. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau considered about 3,700 of the released criminal aliens to be “Level 1” threats – its top priority for deportation – but chose alternatives to detention such as electronic monitoring.
Under pressure from illegal-alien advocacy groups, the Obama Administration has released some aliens from detention and placed them in the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program. But according to Breitbart News, a report by the Homeland Security Department’s Inspector General says the agency no longer monitors some of the released aliens and over 2,000 were arrested for committing crimes after their release.

At a press conference yesterday House and Senate Republicans called on Senate Democrats to end their filibuster of the spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security. Although Senate Democrats want to fund DHS through the end of the fiscal year, as the bill would do, they are blocking debate on the bill to protect the president’s executive amnesties. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said “I believe we’ll prevail. I believe that the American people are not going to allow their Congress to say one thing during campaign season and do another in Congress.”
The House Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee will hold two hearings in early February to examine bills from the 113th Congress that strengthen interior immigration enforcement, eliminate fraud and abuse from asylum laws, end Administration policies that encourage illegal immigration, and require E-Verify use. The subcommittee is chaired by Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C.
The Senate Democratic Caucus wrote Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to ask for a vote on a Homeland Security funding bill free of the measures to defund President Obama’s executive amnesties. Sen. McConnell now plans to bring up the House-passed legislation for a vote next week.
The head of the union representing 12,000 federal immigration workers issued a statement on Thursday warning that the nation's lax immigration policies could be exploited by the terrorist group ISIS. Ken Palinkas, who serves as the President of the National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, said it is "essential to warn the public about the threat that ISIS will exploit our loose and lax visa policies to gain entry to the United States."
ABC News reports that the Department of Homeland Security lost track of, and is now pursuing, over 6,000 foreign students who are deemed to be of “heightened concern.” DHS told ABC that about 58,000 foreign students had overstayed their visa but the vast majority are not being sought.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry said terrorist groups, including ISIS who earlier this week killed an American journalist, could be using the ongoing border surge crisis alon the U.S.-Mexico border to sneak operatives into the United States. Perry said Congress needs to focus on securing the border before discussing broader immigration reform.
Reports from the southern border indicate that some of the newly-arrived illegal border crossers are carrying infectious diseases and a few border patrol agents have already contracted the diseases. Physician and Congressman Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) has sent a letter to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention asking for more details on the activation of their Emergency Operations Center in response to the border crisis and what steps are being taken to safeguard Americans.
Buses carrying recent illegal border crossers to Murietta, California were rerouted after being blocked by protesters opposed to their being processed at a local Border Patrol facility and released into the community. The 140 nationals from Central American countries were flown from Texas on Tuesday and then bused to Murrieta. The actions of the roughly 100 protesters forced federal authorities to take them instead to a Border Patrol facility in San Ysidro, California.
On Thursday, the House of Representatives approved two immigration enforcement amendments offered by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) to the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act. The bill includes funding for the Justice Department, and Rep. King's amendments addressed the recent report of more than 36,000 criminal illegal aliens being released from custody and sanctuary cities.

The Obama administration has issued new exemptions to federal immigration law for asylum and refugee seekers that could allow individuals with ties to terrorists into the United States. The exemptions were published to the federal register on Wednesday and would narrow the ban on refugees and asylum seekers who had provided limited material support to terrorists.
The president of the union that represents Immigration Service Officers has sent a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) warning of the problems a mass amnesty bill would create for the agency that process immigration applications. Ken Palinkas said that officers are currently forced to "rubber-stamp applications and have been denied the resources and mission support necessary to carfully screen and vet each application." Palinkas warns that immigration reform would "overload the system."

He said that tasking USCIS to review tens of millions of immigration-benefit applications before correcting political corruption within the agency invites disaster.
The Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, the union that represents the nation's Border Patrol agents, Shawn Moran, has told Breitbart News that agents are being ordered to stand down and end any pursuit of drug smugglers, human smugglers, and illegal aliens. Moran said the reasons given by the administration are budgetary concerns and to ensure agents aren't working long shifts.
The National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers (NAFBPO) issued a press release yesterday urging Republican House leadership to forgo plans to provide amnesty for the 11 million illegal aliens in the United States. The organization instead, calls for the House to focus on enforcing the nation's laws.
"The NAFBPO urges the American public to directly request Congressmen John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan to abandon their dreams of amnesty, by whatever name, and get on a realistic track to ensure national security and public safety. That track leads to effective interior enforcement in every jurisdiction in all fifty states. Only then can actual border security and control become possible," the group wrote in the release.
Student visa holder Quazi Nafis was arrested last week for trying to blow up the Federal Reserve building in New York City with what he thought was a 1,000-pound bomb. Nafis is not the first to use easily-acquired student visas to gain legal entry to, and plot attacks against, the United States.
Kimberly Dvorak from The Examiner reports that the Obama Administration ignored multiple warnings by Border Patrol Agents and local police that said a wilderness reserve plan would result in national security breaches and deaths.
Border Patrol Agents traveling on horseback near the U.S.-Mexico border were attacked by unknown assailants early today. One Agent was shot to death and another wounded with non-life-threatening injuries. A third escaped injury. The agents were investigating the triggering of a border sensor near Naco, Arizona. It is not known whether they returned fire.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed the Conservation and Economic Growth Act, H.R.2578, that included a section to allow the Border Patrol to fully operate on federally-owned lands with 100 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. The Border Patrol section was originally part of Rep. Rob Bishop's (R-Utah) National Security and Federal Lands Protection Act. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) offered an amendment to strip Bishop's section from the larger bill, but the House voted down the amendment.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives will consider the Conservation and Economic Growth Act, H.R.2578 - a compilation bill that includes Rep. Rob Bishop's (R-Utah) National Security and Federal Lands Protection Act in its entirety. Rep. Bishop's measure would allow Border Patrol to obtain operational control on federally protected lands, specifically in Southern Arizona along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The various federal agencies that deal with border security and immigration issues are still not on the same page, according to a report by the Office of the Inspector General. The report concludes that agencies such as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol still have significant problems linking databases and maintaining efficient lines of communication.
Last Friday, Amine El Khalifi, a 29-year-old Moroccan citizen, was arrested by FBI agents as he made his way to the U.S. Capitol for what he believed would be a suicide mission. El Khalifi is an illegal alien who has been living in the United States unlawfully since 1999 after his visa expired. The near miss highlights the need for a functional entry/exit system that works and prevents visa overstayers from staying in the country illegally.
The House Homeland Security Committee hosted a hearing Wednesday afternoon called “An Examination of the President's FY 2013 Budget Request for the Department of Homeland Security” with DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.The President's budget essentially cuts all 287(g) funding despite an overwhelming bipartisan vote in the House last year to keep the program. With little chance for the budget to pass, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle didn't put too much pressure on Sec. Disney World is dubbed one of the "Happiest Places on Earth", and Pres. Barack Obama will try to make it even happier by proposing to simplify the tourist visa process during a speech there on Thursday. The President will "unveil a strategy that will significantly help boost tourism and travel" said a White House aide. Trying to boost the top industry in a state with double-digit unemployment is a good idea. But making it easier for foreign visitors to come to the United States is a bad idea without a completed entry/exit system.
